I graduated
with a B.A. from Rice University in Texas in 1982 and got an M.S.
from the University of Chicago in 1992. Shortly thereafter I joined
Dr. Olopade's lab. The projects I have worked on have included mapping
of the p16 region on chromosome 9, cloning the MTAP gene and screening
patient samples for mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. More
recently I have worked with Dr. Minjie Wei to examine the methylation
status of the promoters of genes involved in breast cancer. Alternative
and aberrant splicing of the BRCA1and BRCA2 genes has become a new
focus for me as we delve into the consequences of specific genetic
variants.
