I am a medical
student at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.
I just began this journey (Class of 2008) and I wanted to get some
insight into transitional research so I joined Funmi's lab. Prior
to joining and coming to UChicago, I went to college at the University
of Chicago, spent two years as a management consultant, and the
past year as a post-bac fellow at the NIH studying a spindle checkpoint
protein, Mad1p, in yeast. In Funmi's lab, I'm trying to determine
whether or not individuals in our high risk clinic have a correlation
between bilirubin levels, UGT1A1 genotypes, and TA repeats of UGT1A1.
This will hopefully help 1) to aid in understanding the toxicity
factors related in irinotecan dosage and 2) us use the genotypes
& repeats to help predict expected baseline bilirubin levels.
